A Mother Cat and Her Kit

A mother cat and her kit
Came across a chocolate cake
And sat down to eat it.

The younger cat was ready to dine,
But his mother insisted
They take their time.

She carefully preened,
Making herself purrfect
And spotlessly clean.

I am hungry, mewed the kit.
I see no reason to hesitate.
Let's get to eating it.

The mother said: in a bit.
The cake is doing something for us.
We should do something for it.

We should be in our prime.
The cake will appreciate
That we took our time.

In the end, make no mistake:
Clean or dirty,
They ate the cake.
